Well, well, well. Look how fancy this is. Erm, I mean. Hello everyone~. How are we all on this fine night/morning/afternoon~? It is I, the shimmering Vervain, here to fill out this blog with an introduction so that I'll be able to blog in the future without having to introduce myself. By soon, I mean October, which is probably not all that soon but...

When you live in 20 sq meters it's hard to get stuff done. Yesterday I went to Denny's for like 5.5 hrs to draw comics, but I ended up spending like 1,780 yen there during the time there D; (approx. $20 USD) This is the bad part about living here....To go out is expensive and staying inside means that I am prone to play games or go online. Anyone have any good advice for staying productive?? On a side note, the cherry blossoms look about ready to bloom. I am super excited. If you've never ...

I went to my 2nd editor this week with my most recently completed story, "Magic Mystery!" (which I am in the process of uploading now :) I went over to talk to an editor at Square Enix's GFantasy. I'm a fan of the magazine, and thought that maybe my story would fit. Not sure if this is common knowledge, but in Japan, as long as you have a completed work, you can call up any magazine's editorial department and ask to talk to an editor. This is called "mochikomi." Usually they want to see a co...

Musings on Paneling 01: The Big #2 No, not poop. The number! I've been asked about paneling before, but paneling is such an individual thing. It's a very broad topic to approach without getting stuffy and academic. A lot of the time I just notice things and draw randomly without ever putting words to what I'm doing. Luckily, Erin has been asking me things about stuff I never though to put words ot. So, I decided to do some laidback "tutorials" that simply present a principle and apply it. May...

I was inspired to write this blog due to once of my recent pages in my comic, dealing with blurred vision. I was thinking about head injuries and my experience with them like how I felt, what I saw, etc. So I wanted to make a blog out of it! How about it? Have you ever hit your head, or injured it in some way? How did it happen? How did you feel? Did you lose consciousness? Did you have any lasting effects from it? I injured my head badly on two occasions. Once in a bike wreck and once playin...

- Apr 2, 2012 11:53 AM
Hi everybody! For those of you who like Tale of the Manju, I figured I'd write a little bit on how this came to be and share some of my thoughts. Basically, I worked on getting this one-shot (more a children's book really) together for my wife. It was actually a present for her that I thought she might enjoy, and I took little inside jokes from our life and put it together into one story. I'd never thought really that many people besides us would like it, and I'm super happy that people do! =...

Well, this made the grouchy me less grouchy~ Journals! I was curious where these went! I guess I should take advantage of this, huh? May as well, since I'm still fairly new. HI! I'm Youko-MJ! You probably figured, but I may as well point it out. I came here from DA, guided by a walking, talking Pai. I decided to come here to promote my original story Nora and the Fallen Stars... but I realized soon I lack alot of small things like a title logo and finished concept work. All will be worked on ...

Disclaimer: I'm probably not all that qualified to tell you. But as a foreigner trying to do manga here, I guess I can think up an okay answer. Think about it. Is it easy for a Japanese person in Japan to do manga? No, no, no....a thousand times no. So that brings us to the original question, which has the added handicaps of Japanese not being your native language and you needing a visa to even reside in the country. To make things worse, publishing companies are having a hell of a time th...
