    Yen Press : Beautiful Creatures

Okay, here we go, time to really announce it! The reason I’ve been so seemingly unproductive lately is because I’ve been pouring every spare moment into working on the manga adaptation of Beautiful Creatures for Yen Press! Chapter 1 came out today in Yen+ magazine (the May issue) while Lena & Ethan hog the cover! So now I can ramble about it. The original novel Beautiful Creatures is written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, and it’s an incredible series so I’m super thrilled to be illustrat...

    A sad day for all

Today, as many of you know, 26 people lost their lives including 18 little kids. 18 babies, in my eyes. It's a sad, sad day in America and it's only going to get worse. I believe times like this to be the most reprehesible and every American needs to take a huge step back and think, for once. No politics. No religion. Just, for one day, be human.

I just got back from Sakuracon!  Thank you so much to everyone who dropped by to say hi, especially Nellerific and her gf, who did an amazing Colin and Lucas cosplay!!  I didn't take as many photos as I should've, but here are some from the con! Here is an awkward rhino that was in my hotel room.  Awwww. Hazel from Always Raining Here ( http://alwaysraininghere.com/) showed up in her adorable cosplay!  I was right across from the Kinokunaya booth, as you can probably tell. OH MY GOD LOOK AT T...

Is it hard for a foreigner to do manga in Japan?

Disclaimer: I'm probably not all that qualified to tell you. But as a foreigner trying to do manga here, I guess I can think up an okay answer.  Think about it. Is it easy for a Japanese person in Japan to do manga? No, no, no....a thousand times no. So that brings us to the original question,  which has the added handicaps of Japanese not being your native language and you needing a visa to even reside in the country.  To make things worse, publishing companies are having a hell of a time th...

    Bakuman: How Real Is It?

(note: I originally wrote this in the summer of 2012 for a Wordpress account I no longer use, so I'm reposting it here where others might enjoy it)   Yesterday my husband brought home the last volume of the manga-about-manga bestseller Bakuman. It was critically acclaimed  for its first half by manga organizations and had great sales, but unfortunately the manga lost my interest midway and I stopped after volume 15. But a friend told me it had ended its run in Jump and I figured there were on...
