Flexible Tools Demo: Inking with a Brush Most people that know me know how crazy I am about ink and any kind of traditional tool out there. Since the last tutorials I did focused on rigid tools like technical pens and liners, I was kicking around the idea of showing a softer, more organic technique used making a brush. I have a couple of people ask about these more flexible tools and what kinds of free, dynamic effect lines you can make with them. This technique is great for suspense and horr...

Musings on Paneling 04: Big 2, LIttle 2 More manga thoughts. Hopefully is ADD friendly. I hope it is approachable and leaves every viewer feeling free to do with the general ideas what they like. This one incorporates the fist tutorial, but show how the 2 miniature "2's" are incorporated into the horizontal page deisgn. I guess I should note that this is a very flamboyant performance, wherein two people are engaging in passive-aggressive behavior. Finalized, Unmarked Reference Page Used Can b...

Musings on Paneling 01: The Big #2 No, not poop. The number! I've been asked about paneling before, but paneling is such an individual thing. It's a very broad topic to approach without getting stuffy and academic. A lot of the time I just notice things and draw randomly without ever putting words to what I'm doing. Luckily, Erin has been asking me things about stuff I never though to put words ot. So, I decided to do some laidback "tutorials" that simply present a principle and apply it. May...

M A N G A - A P P S 3rd Annual Manga-Apps Prompt Contest I didn't think about posting a blog before, but if you're interested, there is a comic contest going on over at Manga-Apps on Deviantart. The aim of the game is to create a oneshot/standalone comic from 8-50 pages, and incorporate one of the yearly themes: bullying, wings, chase, or dehumanization. We always have a load of fun with this contest and we try to give those who want it in-depth feedback on entries! We would love for you to c...

I'm hardly a professional letterer, but part of my day job is to work with lettering files for comic books. I picked up a lot of really fun and informative tips and tricks by learning from the pros! Lettering's important! When we pick up a book, we want to be able to read them very well. There shouldn't be anything in the way that should make us go: "Huh? That's hard to read!" "I don't know what that says..." "What should I be reading first?" It's our job as comic book artists to draw our re...

Have some of you struggled with getting page composition idea's to come out? Or have you looked over your script and you just couldn't think of a nice layout for the page? Well the same thing happened to me as well. I was super stressed and tired and I just could wrap my mind around how the page should look, even with looking over my script and knowing what I wanted but I just couldn't draw it out the right way so my husband decided to step in and help me. So with his awesome skills he sketch...

OR READ AT MY BLOG! I seem to be getting questions about style and design a lot lately, whether that's on my personal site or profile, in relation to the Manga-Apps competition, or even at our Rocket City Comickers' Club. (Hi, Deanna!) I decided to try and address some of these questions in a positive light by writing about them on this blog. I'll be throwing in my two cents about a variety of topics, and some of them are kind of sensitive, so I will do my best to talk about them appropriate...

Musings on Paneling 03: Hand Gestures More manga thoughts. Hopefully is ADD friendly. I hope it is approachable and leaves every viewer feeling free to do with the general ideas what they like. This one incorporates the previous two tutorials, zigzagging and stepping up/down in terms of panels. I guess I should note that this is a very flamboyant performance, wherein two people are engaging in passive-aggressive behavior. Some things, like pointing, are very aggressive, and might be troub...

I've been hard-pressed to get to the Internet these days, as most of you close to me know already. (For reasons that still remain rather extreme, confusing, pendulum-ish...for even when I think things are looking up temporarily, they swing back into the netherworld of darkness. ;o;) I hope you enjoy the recent double-page spread color page in lieu of frequent early-month updates. More pages to come! I am actually feeling amazingly productive...when I can be! The time I originally had to comic...

I know you usually enjoy our blog posts, because we´re crazy as hell. Today, unfortunately we´re not in the mood for it. Sorry if we´re getting a bit serious. Today it´s been a year since the worst day in our lives. Actually, the end of the three worst weeks in our lives. So... we just wanted to say thank you, everybody. Thanks to those of you who´ve been supporting us through this year, even with a single word. Thanks to those of you who know why chapter 12 of Soul Chaser is so importa...
