As you probably have noticed, the Midnight Hunter's world is a bit different from our own world. The setting is located near the end of the 19th Century, but we have altered some dates and discoverings to reflect the steampunk "superscience" of our universe. Do not blame us for this . Also, we have magic, supernatural beings and strange powers. We have based our monsters and villains in the late victorian and gothic literature (Poe, Shelley, Stoker...) mixed with a bit of "Lovecraftian" cosmic horror. Do not expect from us shiny teenage vampires in the highschool or half naked muscular young lycanthropes . In Midnight Hunters, the monsters are the bad guys, and the good ones (the Midnight Hunters) are there to fight against them. So, if you have questions about our setting, this is the place to ask about it! We will be proud to answer your questions.

Out of curiosity, what made you decide to choose the 19th century as the historical backdrop? And do humans commonly know about monsters in this world or is it totally a mystery to them?
I'm also curious on where our two world's diverged!

We have various reasons for this one.
First, Panda (the writer) have read a lot of "gothic horror" literatue. We love the "atmosphere" of these classics, the fight of the science versus the superstition, etc.
Second, this period is very... visual. The clothing, the houses, the ships... everything.
Three, we love the steampunk genre.

People is as superstitious as in real world, but here they have a reason, monsters are real! They do believe in monsters, but few people have really seen them. Did you know in our real world Serbian vampire hunters still work in 1940?

First, monsters. They are real.
Second, supersciense. Midnight Hunters sciense is far away evolved than in the same period in real world.
Three, magic. Linked with the first one, magic is real.
These are the mayor changes in our setting. Hope I've answered your questions
