Hello everyone... I wasn't sure where to post it... anyway, what i am curious about:
How to choose good nickname \ pseudonym when you are digital artist who tries to be a great artist one day?
I've asked a lot of people and everyone has different opinions on that. most of people do random choice(and later often regret it), somebody tries to find short and easy to remember name... others try to give the name personal meaning and\or good meaning.
my favorite example is probably Yuumei whose nick is easy to remember, sounds great and it means famous(and sure she is famous). and i believe most of people know who i talk about.
what nicknames\pseudonyms you've seen you liked? how did you choose yours?
what nicknames you would likely to dislike and ignore? are short names easier to remember than long names?
is there a formula for creating unique, outstanding and catchy nickname? how important is nickname at all?
*unique is quite important because for example half of DA users are bots who chose best nicknames and they do not even use their accounts
(so it is almost impossible to find short good name that isn't used somewhere..)
(ps - what do you think about my nickname, but honestly? i promise i will not get angry or upset )
thank you everyone for answer :]

I usually go with nicknames that mean something to me, not so much to someone else. And I seem to enjoy anonymity, as my nickname here and other places is king_nothing, thus the King of Nothing (inspired by the Metallica song "King Nothing"), and I enjoy the pseudonym Ian Moone, which, when you switch the m and n, becomes "I am no one." I got that from an episode of CSI.
Sometimes I just wing it. An old name I had was dacheeselord, cuz I like cheese. And I think yours is cool. ^^

I went to see a performance about puns, but it was just a play on words.

Mine actually came to me by accident--originally I'd had a different handle, and I'd been doing a skin for a forum. I'd wanted to show my friend without her having bias, so I'd quick changed my display name to Pai (after an obscure character I loved from an older manga) and ultimately after I'd opened the forum I'd never changed it back. Eventually I just kept going with it, 'cause I really rather liked it. It has meaning to me, not so much to anyone else, unless you're Portuguese. Usually, as far as aliases, I like to see weird things XD the more obscure and uncommon-sounding, the better, in my opinion.

You nickname is hilarious XD But I don't think that there's any formula to making a nickname :/ Just anything that you find interesting I guess.
Hatori Bisco's name has absolutely no meaning to us, but it's special to her. Aki's name comes from [I'm guessing] Shimizu Aki, the artist of the Suikoden III manga. Aki is a really big fan of Gensou Suikoden [and is the artist of the most popular Suikoden doujinshi circle, Shachou no Subako] so her name is most likely a direct reference to Shimizu Aki.

I usually go with something that means something to me. My penname, Yuuki Kajitaka (well, when I write it the way I always do, it's Kajitaka Yuuki), is based on (1) my favorite mythological creature, the phoenix (kaji=fire, taka=hawk; it's not the correct name, but I liked this compound word better), and (2) my real name. My first name is "Kelcie" using the Irish spelling (as opposed to the more common Scotch spellings with -sey and -sie); the Irish spelling means "courage," so I simply translated it into Japanese. ^^ I use this as a penname even on the books I've self-published.
For "screennames" that I wouldn't publish something under, I usually make references to my favorite anime; KyuubiTenshi is one of my oldest, and it was based on Naruto. 20FacesChizu is what I use most now, and it refers to "The Daughter of Twenty Faces," which is an excellent mystery anime.
Really, choosing a name is up to you, but I will give a few pointers. Short names are easy to remember, and stories behind names make them memorable. It's simply a matter of how you decide to choose. =^^=

the nickname i use here is my angry mistake because i tried to come up with perfect name too long...
i thought about using japanese like name and i am glad i didnt because for now my art isn't really japanese styled. and i heard people get annoyed by that xD and i am too far from being japanese & not that otaku type... anyway with japanese name people expect certain level and type of comic and i am not in the level.
i had perfect pseudonym until i found out it is famous criminal' real name T_T and this was really perfect but really meaningless. more meaningless than my current name D:
i am thinking with sticking with current name but how do you think, how will look BrBwithagun on a cover of published comic(hhhha high expectations? well, i cannot really imagine it. but i saw Yen press(adore them) has a lot of mangaka who use pen-names instead of names or pseudonyms... (like completely username type).
i just thought my nickname is memorable but my friend told it is too long and quite stupid o_O
King_nothing, thats why i thought it is familiar! but songs may get annoying after some years... at least my favorite band in past is not so favorite now and i am glad i didnt use any reference from their songs...
pai sounds cool and simple to remember, i like it. what does it mean on portugese?
but i still think name should somehow mean what kind of person the author is.
β-galactosidase, "Hatori Bisco's name has absolutely no meaning to us" - well, hatori means something on japanese, so it is not all that meaningless even for us.
Y.Kajitaka, i love such types of names, even it's japanese haha i like combined meanings and your sounds great(and my ideas never did so thats another reason why i didnt use japanese name). phoenix also my favorite.
i also like some chemica\biologyl words and stuff on latin but i guess it is even harder to remember and i do not know the topics well enough to use them...
ohh i guess i will relax on my nickname when my art will become good. because nickname attracts people but only for good art\story people will stay and remember the nickname..
anyway i believe name is important... titanic was named after also sinked in first dase of "living" TITAN, if i remember correctly. so name is important DD
i keep thinking what my current nickname means or make people think it means...

Well I don't mean the literal meaning. I meant that it has no significance to us but only to the mangaka herself. Like Hatori is a combination of "leaf" and "bird" [葉鳥] so it does have a literal translation meaning. However, I was addressing the significance of why Hatori Bisco choose her name, since I assumed that the reason this topic was started. [Like you were asking for the significance of why some people choose their nicknames so you can formulate your own.] If it wasn't I'm sorry if I misunderstood what you said. m(_ _)m

I vaguely remember getting my name from smooshing the fake name I was using on the internet when free sites asked for your name (Ashiri Kuroi, because there is no such person... >.> ) and the nickname of one of my main characters (Kai). Somehow I got Ashikai out of that. Methinks. Maybe.
Ashiri (or Ashley) + Loki - Lo (KAI) = Ashi+kai ~~ Ashikai?
WORD MATH!

I have have all sorts of screen names that I use in different places. They usually come from something I'm interested in.
My name on here comes from both my love of norse mythology and of Doctor Who. I was trying to come up with a name for a renegade Time Lord character and ended up with The Valkyrie, I liked it and it stuck.
Loki, one of my other nicknames, also comes from norse mythology and relates to my trickster-ish personality.
I also use the name Elvende in some places, it's elvish (Lord of the Rings) for 'star maiden'. It also started out as a name for a character.

I was planning on naming myself so to have an appeal on girls. hehehe I was thinking of using Chocolate or chocolat but it sounds girly and people might mistake me for being agirl so decided to choose a nameon a local delicacy. I spell it wrong! It was supposed to be putopao not putopu! Too lazy to change it now.
