HI, Im new want to be involved!

Hi,

Thankfully someone guided me to this part of the forums!

The main thing i want to say is, I want to improve my self and create a portfolio, so I am hoping anybody and everybody is willing to help me out.
You can help me by offering inspiration, asking me to draw your ideas, or asking for help with personal projects that you are doing. It would be my pleasure and be much appreciated.

The only thing i have to warn you about is that i have been on a long term artist block which i think i have finally left, so I am a bit rusty. (This is the main reason why I am asking for help!)

Also I want to say is that this will be helping me so I wont be asking for money or the such on actually labor projects.

Alex

If youre looking to create a strong portfolio you're going to have to make original work. If there's anything I know art institutions and professionals aren't too keen on it's fan art, or style mimicry. Unless they say other wise... So sure, I think MM is a great place for you to look for inspiration. Check out the artists and the comics. But what's most important is for you to brain storm and come up with your own ideas.

see how that goes.... because while involvement is good relying on people for motivation and such can really tie you down. As artists we have to learn to work even when we lack inspiration or motivation.

Re:HI, Im new want to be involved!

I don't really know what this portfolio you're working on is for but...
Drawing from life is good for portfolios. Although what you should focus on, (abstract, design, variety) and medium will vary depending on what the portfolio may be for, life and figure drawings are always a plus, because it shows that you can actually see the world around you and translate the 3d into a 2d format effectively. It also helps gain understanding of the human figure and you might want to draw someone in that pose. Different poses are fun to draw. Like matial artists or dancers! Still, if you look at the paper way more than what you're drawing, then life drawings are very important. Gain the ability to draw what you see and not what you think you see. There is always room for improvement. Plus there is always that random person who wants a picture of their daughter or something.

From working on my "so you wanna go to college?" portfolio, I remember hearing all kinds of people trying to go into different fields be asked: "great, you wanna be a(n) x. Can you draw?" Everyone I know from ceramics students to photography students and of course illustraion or those planning on going into animation mentioned this.

Sketch often too! You might doodle something you could turn into a finished work. Perhaps even making a sketchbook is a cool idea. I remember making one from one of those giant drawing pads larger than me. I pasted, stapled, taped, and sew random things that represented me as an artist at first, but I just had so much fun putting random crap on it. It now has a backup house key and a lighter, which probably wasn't the best idea... Even then, the different pages in a sketch book don't have to be pencil on paper either. Experiment! If people can draw with gunpoweder, I think a coffee stain is no reason to fret. Accidents and experimentation may help clear up that artist's block. (And if this is a college portfolio, it can help show them that you're thinking and have imagination. A real plus to show off your fancy custom sketchbook.)

I've also noticed alot of places and people turn their noses up when they see something "animesqe," because people are seeing it everywhere, so if that is your main focus or style, branch out more, or put meaning behind the piece being in the style.

Hope this helps!

Re:HI, Im new want to be involved!

KeychainAyson, anything can be copied - there is no way to be saved from it. and it is really hard to create a story that wasn't already written in some way.

i mean that if you are on MangaMagazine you must probably interested in being writer for comics... but maybe you meant simly writer of books... or anything else... i don't know.

and if you want to be writer for comics, i think you need to find artist who will write your stories because in most cases companies do not seek for writers, the seek for teams. and if you want to work on Manga Magazine, for example becoming featured writer or even premium, you need someone to draw your stories. and since Manga magazine is a good way to start for amateur manga writers and artists, why not to try it? find an artist who will want to write your stories. publish them together on MM.
Besides your question is rather hard to answer for me because i am not sure what exactly you ask about. what stories do you write? did you post them anywhere?

Ashikai, ahahaha
