At the end of days, a bastion of civilization emerges to stand against the world's decay known as the grand city of Romae. Underneath the grandeur of Romae rests the heart of its people, shackled to slum districts lit by candles and drowning in the shadow of the aristocracy. One such man carrying the torch for humanity, Desmonde, a wayward vigilante against the demonic threat lurking at the city's borders, stands to fight where none would dare to. And yet for all his grand plans, he unwittingly rescues the youngest son of the Prime Minister and is made his bodyguard at the front lines of the city's defense! Forced to become a tool of the aristocracy, Desmonde has choices to make and the decisions will shape the world he knows in the hopes of a better tomorrow. But therein he may lose himself in the conflict of others and find that tomorrow was better off never coming at all.

Preparations for the ball are well underway… and yet Desmonde has reason to be concerned. He has a lot to learn in so little time and with so many people expecting him to behave how a proper guardian should, he ends up asking for assistance from someone very unexpected. Whether or not he survives learning the proper etiquette of how to behave at a ball is another matter entirely.

Returning to Romae right before the ball, Claude and Desmonde are met with enthusiasm and praise for the stories that travelled from York to greet them. But there still lies questions that trouble Claude, still enough for him to fear what the answers to those questions may be.

Defeated, the true monster behind the attacks on York reveals his intentions and promises vengeance. Avdima reveals the truth behind her shattered history with the Four Great Slayers and with it, Claude learns a lesson in trust and understanding and maybe, just maybe, he will learn to accept Desmonde as a friend. After all, time does not heal all wounds.

Finally out of the city, Desmonde confronts the Tempest monster front-on! But he won't be facing it alone, not when Lazarus reminds Claude of just what his father had in his arsenal back when the Four Great Slayers rocked across the plains. Maybe not all hope is lost, not in the name of explosions and a sudden deviation in the works!

Chaos in the form of a torrential storm strikes York hard! By some strange circumstance the Tempest demon Desmonde planned on hunting out the next day turns up within the city and devastates the populace. Any chance for a peaceful visit to the industrialized city is long since gone.

Edgar seems to mean serious business. Whatever trouble Avdima has gotten into, with or without asking, Desmonde tries to lend his expert assistance! Unfortunately, assistance like that results with making their mission in York even more important and dangerous than ever imagined. And just who is this Edgar anyway? Back home in Romae, Ambassador Laurent has great ideas for making sure his face is known at the 30th Annual Winter Solstice Ball. But whether or not Desmonde and Claude will even make it home with stakes so high remains to be seen!

Desmonde and Claude are in far more trouble then they could imagine-- A Demonic General seems to have taken interest in the earth surrounding the city of Romae!
