February 9, 2012: How to get more fans for your manga / comic?

Hello all,

It is great to see so many great series coming onto the site. We hope you are enjoying all the new features that the team has been rolling out the last few weeks!

We get a lot of questions from all of you, but there has been one question that a lot of people have been asking: How do you get more attention or fans for your manga / comic?

Here are a few tips from the staff:

1. Post links to your series/illustrations on Facebook, Twitter. Nothing better than suggesting friends and people in your network to checking out your new series! Feel free to tweet us at @mangamag!
2. Blog posts: If you have a Tumblr or Wordpress blog, write a blog posting about your series and share the link to your readers.
3. Share your art elsewhere: Share your cover image with a link to your series on Deviantart or pinterest to attract new users to your series!
4. Forums: If you are active on other forums, refer people to your series to check it out!
5. Create a youtube video of you drawing your series and include the URL to your series in the description of the video!

By spreading the word of your series, you also help us grow our community size so everybody can benefit! The bigger we get, the more opportunities we can give to all of you to build a fan base and take your manga / comic to the next level!

February 7, 2012: Welcome to our new community managers!

Hello all,

Thank you to those who expressed an interest for our community manager position! We had a lot of great applicants and are looking forward to building this group up so MangaMagazine.net can better serve you as well as get recognized in the world!

Please help me welcome our new community managers *drum roll*... Jamel, Powil, and Takeru! They will be helping out keeping the forums organized, promoting MangaMagazine.net, and overall just helping make sure things are running smoothly!

We here at MangaMagazine.net are always looking for ways for our members to have the opportunity to show off your talents as well as vote to show who are your favorite artists. Because of that we are very excited to announce the start of our illustration competition!

MangaMagazine.net will announce a theme to which any of our members or featured authors will be allowed to submit one illustration that they think best represents our theme. At the end of the month, we will count the total number of people that are fans of each of the participating illustrations as well as the number of unique people that leave a comment for that illustration. The winner is the person who has the most votes!

February Illustration Competition Theme:

This month (February) our theme is “Happy New Year of the Dragon”. The Lunar New Year was January 23rd 2012 and according to the lunar calendar, this year is the year of the Dragon so we thought it would be a great way for our first theme to celebrate the New Year!

How do I participate?

1. Favorite the MangaMagazine.net Ilustration Competition profile
2. In the profile, leave a comment with: Illustration Contest Submission: URL of your illustration. See below for instructions on how to get your URL.
3. We will add your illustration to the “Favorite Illustrations” for the profile so everybody can see who is participating in the competition.

How do we count the votes?

• Each fan of the illustration is worth 1 vote
• Each comment by a unique user is worth 1 vote, if one person comments 100000 times it is still only worth 1 vote.
• The Illustration with the highest number wins!

How do my friends see my work?

• Use the Email,Twitter,Facebook, and Sharethis icons on the top right corner of the website to tell your friends where your illustration is.
• Post a note telling your fans/friends about your illustration on deviantart or any blog you may have.
• Post on forums to encourage other users to check out your illustration.

How do I get my illustration URL or how do I upload an illustration?

• If you do not already have a MangaMagazine.net account, please sign up for one HERE
• After logging in, click on “Your Profile” at the top right hand corner of the website.
• Click on the “Add new illustration” button in the “My Illustrations” tab in the middle of the page.
• Follow the form to upload your illustration.
• When you successfully submit your illustration, you should see a confirmation page appear.
• Click on the “CLICK HERE” link to see your newly uploaded illustration.
• Go to where you usually type in the link for a website and copy that URL. It should look like: http://www.mangamagazine.net/illustrations//detail-page/#### where #### is a number.
• Copy that URL and visit the competition profile page HERE and follow the submission instructions above!

Prizes:

• 1st Place: US Dollars cash $200 x1 Prize
• 2nd Place: US Dollars cash $100 x1 Prize
• 3rd Place: US Dollars cash $50 x1 Prize
• MangaMagazine.net picks x 10 Prizes: Choice of any MangaMagazine.net paperback in our online store, includes worldwide shipping

Competition Conditions:

• Participation and prizes
• Competition begins US Pacific time 12:00am February 1st 2012 and ends 11:59pm February 29th 2012. We will use this time range to total votes.
• Any tools or programs are allowed to create the illustration as long as you can upload an illustration to our site.
• Prizes must be claimed before March 15th, 2012
• Image Dimensions:800 x 600 or 600 x 800 pixels
• You must have a Paypal account to receive the cash prize.
• We are only counting unique visitors, so the more people the better! 1 person coming 100000 times is still only 1 vote.
• Submission:
• Illustration can be fan art of existing series but does not have to be. Fan art of non-MangaMagazine related series cannot be of copyrighted material unless you have permission from the author or you own the material.
• The illustration must be an original work created by you.
• You must have unrestricted ownership to the illustration you submitted. (You must own the illustration and no one else!)
• Illustration will remain your exclusive property
• MangaMagazine.net reserves the right to show your illustration as part of promoting the illustration competition and MangaMagazine.net
• No pronography or offensive materials of any kind.
• MangaMagazine.net staff reserves the right to take down llustrations or disqualify a candidate.

Hello all,

We are growing quickly and we need your help. We are looking for volunteer community managers who can assist us as well as the many members in our community.

What does a community manager do?

1. Monitor forums to help keep discussions "on topic"
2. Monitor forums and library for abusive posts, unauthorized spam/advertisements, copyright issues, or any other issues. You will be able to edit and delete messages on the forum as well as be in regular contact with the staff about our library.
3. Help with promotion by spreading word about our site with other communities/forums

If you are interested, please go to the CONTACT US page (select Job Inquiry as the option) to tell us why you are interested in helping out and what experience you have with manga/comics or building communities!

Hello all,

We want to thank you all very much for a great launch. We have received a lot of great feedback and there is a lot of great new content being uploaded all the time. We hope you are enjoying our new site and are excited for the new features we have planned. That said, we’ve got two announcements for you!

First, you may have noticed that the site was down earlier today. In order to roll out new features we will need to have regularly scheduled maintenance times for the site. We use this time to roll out new features as well as fix bugs that we or you find! We plan to have this every week on Wednesdays at 2:00am US Pacific time.

What does this mean? During the maintenance period, the site may not be available and anything you are working on that is not submitted by the start time may result in you seeing some type of website error. Below is a table showing the converted time of the maintenance period in different regions.

Second, some of you may have noticed that our MangaMagazine.net authors have uploaded chapters which only have a few pages in them. They are doing this on purpose! In the past, our authors would only update once or twice a month. Instead of making all of you wait, we thought we would have our authors post two pages a week so you can see the chapter as they draw them! At the end of the month, the authors will post the rest of the chapter. This change means that the same amount of content will be published as before, just that you will see more updates during the month. Hope this clears up any confusion that some of you may have!

Happy New Year and welcome to our new site! We have been hard at work for the last few months on this major revamp! You will notice some new features we built in for all of you to be able to better interact with your favorite authors as well as submit your own content!
