Basics about MangaMagazine.net:
What's MangaMagazine?
MangaMagazine takes input from readers to create a curated experience - highlighting high quality series. Our goal is to become a self-sustaining ecosystem where authors, artists, and readers can work together to find, develop, and launch promising new series on a global scale.
Ok, great, what does that mean?
As an author, we are trying to make it so you can make money publishing your content on our site through subscription fees and advertising revenue we collect!
As a reader, we are trying to help you centralize in one location all the amazing web comics and manga around the web to help both accelerate their publishing speed and ease of discovery for you. What is the difference between premium, featured, and member?
Premium: The best and most popular content on our site.
Featured: Our recent finds who are the up and coming stars of our site. Many are just getting started on developing their series and story. Each though has shown amazing talent.
Member: Anybody can submit their manga or comic to appear here. You may find some hidden gems that we haven't even caught yet!
What are these pools you have?
We have two monthly pools of money we pay out to our featured and premium authors based on the amount of traffic they bring to our site! There are no strings attached to these payments and the only requirement we make is that featured authors upload 1 page per week and premium authors upload 15 pages per month!
Is your content free?
Yes! Our content is all free. If you become a supporter though and sign up for a subscription, you have faster access to published content by our premium authors. These subscription contributions go directly to authors!
Community Guidelines:
Artwork Submission
We accept all artwork submissions of all creative abilities, but we expect your submissions to be your own artwork. If you submit work that is proven to be copied, traced or stolen from another artist, we will take down that work immediately. Direct copying of another persons works is considered plagiarism, and will not be tolerated. Violation of copyright will also be treated very seriously.
Fan art is also acceptable, but if we receive a request from the copyright holders to take down the artwork, we will will do so.
Mature Content
MangaMagazine accepts mature content that features nudity, non-graphic sex, extreme violence and strong language so long as it is put behind our mature content filter. Any content deemed unsuitable that is not behind a content filter, will be asked politely to do so. Failure to comply with this request will result in the image being taken down.
Pornographic work is not accepted on MangaMagazine.net under any circumstances, so please do not post anything that could be deemed pronographic.
If you find something on the site that you find unsuitable, please report it to the staff via the Contact Us form. We will investigate these on a case by case basis and take action as necessary. Please understand that we may not necessarily share your viewpoint on what is considered pornographic.
Offensive Content
Any content that deliberately offends any person or group will be taken down immediately and the original poster will be given a strong warning. The site welcomes all people of all genders, faiths, races and sexuality, and if you do not or are unable to respect this, then you are not going to be very welcome in our community.
We reserve the right to remove any offensive content as well a shut down any accounts containing offensive content.
Criticism VS Offensive Comments
Criticism is a vital part of the growth of any artist, and as such we here at MangaMagazine.net strongly encourage our members to engage in this practice. However, we also expect criticism to be politely worded and constructive. Any posts we see that insult the author and their work personally will be taken down. Persistent rude and offensive comments will affect your chances of promotion and could even lead to account deletion.
On the flip side of this, if you receive an offensive comment then please report it to a member of the community management team. We take this kind of thing very seriously and do not want our members to be subject to undue stress due to persistent harassment.
If you see an offensive comment on another artists work or profile, please report it to the staff. We ask that you do not try to step in or respond to the offensive comments yourself, as doing so can often exacerbate the situation.
Your Personal Life and MangaMagazine.net
We here at MangaMagazine.net expect a certain degree of professionalism from our artists, especially when aimingl for promotion here on the site. This means that we expect our artists to show restraint when giving out personal information about themselves on the site. We understand that sometimes real life events mean you need to reach out and inform your readers of the situation, but these events should be the exception, not the rule. MangaMagazine.net is not a place to broadcast personal information, so please dont treat it as one.
If you have friends that are a part of the MangaMagazine.net community and youd like to have a personal discussion about your life events, please dont do it publicly through the commenting system. We urge you to take this conversation off-site to email, private messaging in the forums, private chat, or instant messaging. Remember that everything on MangaMagazine.net is available for the entire world to see, not just MangaMagazine.net members.
Respect your fellow artists
We understand that sometimes artists will have disputes. Not everyone can get along with everyone else and thats a part of life. We do ask however that you keep your disputes to a private forum. If you want to tell your friends in private about a disagreement then thats fine, however posting blogs on MangaMagazine and talking about it vociferously in public forums such as site comments or chat rooms will not be tolerated.
Spamming
We understand that as artists you want to promote your work as much as a possible, and we encourage artists to do so via social networking and legitimate advertising sites. However we take a firm stance against simply posting a link to your work on the profile of another artist. This is considered rude and frequently doing this will strongly affect your chances for future promotion.
Contacting Staff
If you have any issues or questions regarding the site, please feel free to e-mail any of the sites friendly and helpful staff through the Contact Us form. They are eager to help and will get back to you as soon as they can. The Contact Us form can be found here

Subscription:
-
Why are you charging me to read premium content?
Our premium artists love what they do, but they need to also make a living and put food on the table! The $2.99 goes a long way to helping support all your favorite premium authors focus on publishing your favorite series!
-
What if I don't pay? What can I read?
Registered users can read everything except premium pages posted in the last two months. If you don't pay, just need to wait until the pages become available!
-
Do the premium authors know you are doing this?
Absolutely! We kept the authors fully informed about the process and progress of rolling subscription out. They understand that in order to make this a possibility money has to come from somewhere!
-
Can I cancel my subscription?
Absolutely. If you sign up for a monthly subscription, as long as you cancel before the end of the month, you will not be charged for the next month. If you sign up for the 6 month pre-paid subscription then naturally it is... pre-paid for 6 months and you can cancel and not be billed for the next 6 months.
-
How do I cancel my subscription?
It's really simple! Just go to your profile, click on "Edit Profile" and then "Manage Subscription". The goal isn't to try to make it difficult for you to cancel. If you think you want to subscribe for one month every 3 then do so!
-
Why don't you just keep the content free and pay authors through advertising?
We would love to! The day we have enough user traffic to do this we will happily switch over. Unfortunately the sad reality of this is, unless you have millions of users coming in, there just isn't that much money to pay authors and the costs of this company.... (If you know a couple million people who would be willing to come over send us an email).
-
Is the subscription recurring?
Yes, once you sign up, it will automatically charge you every month until you cancel! This way you don't have to think about it and come back to renew it every month!
-
How much do the premium authors get of the fees we pay?
We will be rolling out a counter to show exactly how much the premium authors get to share a month soon!
-
Why don't you just sell books and not charge for membership?
This is a great question we have seen some people ask. There are three reasons why we didn't focus on books first. Low Pricing, Cost of Shipping, and Risk by authors.
Low Pricing: We decided to focus on subscription first because we thought it gets everybody a bigger bang for their buck! Talking to most users, the vast majority of you read a chapter once and don't often come back to read it again. You are more interested in reading the latest content. You also want access at the most reasonable and accessible price possible. Instead of making it so you have to buy this content at a higher price per book, why not offer a cheaper solution first?
Cost of shipping: Another challenging point is that you as our users are everywhere in the world! We have seen users register and read in every single continent except Antartica. Shipping a book is expensive and can easily be double or triple the cost of a book. So this means for some of you, you would have to pay close to USD $30 for a book! We are still a young company and growing and we just can't have warehouses or shipment locations everywhere to make it cost effective for everybody.
Risk by authors: Lastly and most importantly, we value our authors time very much. Every second they don't spend thinking or working on their series is time lost on getting more high quality pages out for you to read. Preparing a book or poster or any other merchandise is a risk the author takes. The risk that the effort they put into that item will be offset by sales. There is no way to guarantee this and we just didn't think it was fair to them to start with this. Imagine if your favorite author spent weeks preparing books and then not enough people bought them? That time could have been spent to get more content out that you really want to read!
-
Why am I asked to register and then subscribe?
We are really sorry for what might seem like a trick to make you jump through multiple steps! Because we implemented this with existing users, those of you without accounts will run into this issue. If you would just like to continue reading the content free at a slower pace, then please don't feel obligated to subscribe. If you would like to stay up to date then become a supporter and help your favorite author!

How can I become featured?
1) We may invite you to become a featured artist if we find your work to be top quality
2) You have a lot of popularity and many people follow/like your work
3) Other artists strongly recommend you.In all these case, we will have to see your work first, so start off by creating an account and hosting your work on the site first. If you don't take that first step, we won't know to feature you!
Otherwise, once you've put your work on our site, tell all your friends and family about us, and get the word out about your work and talent!

Can you tell us more about the sponsorship pool?
How are we going to make money that justifies paying so much money?
A combination of three things. Subscription, advertising, and a marketplace. You now have seen our subscription system, next is to refine the marketplace (online store) that we launched so it is much more comprehensive and useful to all of you, and lastly also start integrating advertising in tasteful locations.
Can I get demoted?
Nothing has changed from before. 99% of the time we demote because an author simply disappears off the face of the earth or asks to be demoted!
What happens if I do not upload enough that month?
You will not be paid your portion of the sponsorship pool. Reader come to this site expecting professional quality work done by professionals. Everybody knows ahead of time what the expectation is so you can build a small buffer to plan ahead for vacations or random issues that occur.
Will the pool get bigger?
Most definitely if we can! We REALLY want to be able to justify this. So help get the word out! The more users, authors, and subscriptions that come to our site, the more we can justify a larger pool!
Joining MangaMagazine.net:
What happens to my copyright and rights to my work after I join?
You retain copyright and all rights to your work at all times. Don't worry about that. We won't use your work except to promote it to get you more traffic.
Do you accept manga that goes from left to right as well as right to left?
Yes, we accept manga that goes either way. Its up to the authors preference. As this is in english, we understand that some authors would prefer to set it up the way english readers are used to, while others may wish to go with the traditional Japanese method.
Do you accept comics?
Yes, we also accept comics. We consider comics and manga to be stylistically different but essentially similar in underlying principle.
Do you accept comic strips such as the 4 panel types?
Yes, that is also acceptable. Generally, we accept all types of comics, manga, etc.
Do we keep the rights to our work?
Yes, certainly. MangaMagazine does not claim rights to your work beyond the right to show it on the site, promote it, and in cases where you have agreed, to sell your work for standard commission fees.
What do you mean by commission fees?
By this we mean if you work with us to sell a comic on our site, we may charge you a small transaction fee for the sales on our site. This helps keep the site going.
Why should I host on MangaMagazine?
MangaMagazine is the premier provider of quality level webmanga. Unlike many other sites, we screen the authors and artists that we feature prominently. That way, our readers only get the best of web manga and comic work. By hosting on our site, you have the opportunity to be featured alongside the very best and distinguishing yourself and your work.
What type of content can I upload to MangaMagazine? Do you allow violence/nudity/pornography/etc.?
Light and tasteful nudity and violence are both OK. We are flexible with violence and will take extreme scenarios on a case by case basis. Images of sex and pornography are not allowed at all under any circumstances.

Copyright / Piracy
MangaMagazine.net takes artist copyright and piracy very seriously. This is a site dedicated to original works and helping great artists find opportunities to promote and succeed with their original series. As such, we believe it is very important that all images uploaded by all our members are original works! So what does it mean to be an original work?
Anything that you upload needs to have been drawn/written/improved by you or the team you are working together with. If you started or are uploading something you got from another site or series, it is not original! If you have not spent at least an hour working on what you have uploaded and have taken content from some other source, it is likely not to be original!
We are by no means experts on this and there is definitely some grey areas here. Our goal is to give you as clear of guidelines as possible to ensure you know what we check against when we are warned about copyright infringement.
What should I do if I suspect somebody of posting pirated/copyrighted material?
Please use our contact us form to let us know about which artist and what item do you think is violating this policy! Please make sure to include the following in the message you send us:
- a. A URL to the content you have concerns about
- b. Where did you see similar content (provide a URL if possible)
Can users trace other pictures and post their traced copy as their own art?
No, it doesn't matter if they're traced. If it still resembles the original, dramatically, in appearance than that is considered plagiarism. Now if the person uses the picture as a form of inspiration then that's slightly different but it depends on how much the picture look like the original.
Can users edit [recolor, adjust levels, saturation, color, etc] pictures that are not theirs and post that picture as their art?
No, if it resemble the original, almost like a perfect copy, than it's consider plagiarism. If I took Goku from Dragonball Z and changed his hair color and martial-art clothing than that is considered stealing. I did not create him someone else did and all I'm doing is changing the hair, clothes, color something that was already created.
Is posting other people's art allowed when the user states that the art isn't theirs?
No, just because you said you took somebody work and copied it over doesn't mean it is now acceptable!
Can artists use motifs [icons, symbols, clothing, etc. kind of stuff] from other artists?
Generally yes. We will look at this on a case by case basis, but as long as you are not abusing this heavily, it should not be an issue.
What about fan art!!!
Fan art is a very important part of the community we have. We are very supportive of artists who like to show their passion for their favorite series by drawing characters they love. As long as your fan art is original and remains as illustrations and do not become series you should be fine!

How do you pick comics for the weekly e-mail?
For the Featured and Premium comics, we simply compare the traffic of a comic against their updates, and pick from there. For member's comics, we primarily rely on recommendations for our readers.
How often can a comic appear in the weekly e-mail?
Once a comic has been featured in the e-mail, it cannot appear again for around 3 months. This'll mean you'll see something different every time!
How do you pick the illustrations?
Over the week, we gather a collection of the best illustrations, and then pick the best from that group. If you have an illustration you think should be in the e-mail, please let us know by contacting us at james@mangamagazine.net
How often can their artist have their illustrations in the e-mail?
Unlike the comics, there's no limitation on how often an artists illustrations can appear in the e-mail.
Activity Spotlight? What's that?
This is a section where you'll see interesting blogposts and competitions from our artists. We'll also feature product and commission promotion from time to time as well!
How do you choose these?
Same as with the illustrations, we gather together the best candidates over the course of the week, and pick the best from that group.
How often can an artist appear in the activity spotlight?
As with the illustrations, there is no limit.
Can I recommend my own comic?
Sadly, no, as we're looking for the readers choice to be comics recommended by 'readers' not the artists themselves.
